A deputy has been pronounced dead after being involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler on Highway 249. The accident occurred yesterday, at about 1:46 p.m.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported that the crash occurred in the northbound lanes of 249, in Spring Cypress. Officials say that the 18-wheeler had stopped in the left shoulder. The deputy, a 27-year-old man, driving northbound on Highway 249 when he clipped the back right of the 18-wheeler. The force of the impact caused his vehicle to bounce into another lane and strike a Chevy Silverado.
The deputy was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. On the way, an officer escorting him by motorcycle fell off of his motorcycle on I-45, but was reported to be in fair condition following his accident.
The deputy involved in the crash with the 18-wheeler was transported from the scene of the accident on Highway 249 to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It is unclear if anyone else was injured in the crash.
