Power Steering Failure Causing Recall of Cadillac, Camaro and Corvette

General Motors is recalling 26,772 of its popular Corvette, Camaro and Cadillac ATS and CTS sedans. The recall is for certain 2016-2018 Cadillac CTS and 2017 ATS sedans, and 2017 Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro coupes.

GM notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on February 7 to inform them that the company will begin the recall in March.

According to GM, the recall stems from defective control boards in the Bosch-supplied electric power-steering system of the vehicles. If the system fails, drivers may have to steer with more effort, which if happens unexpectedly, may increase the changes of a crash.

GM noted that drivers will get an audible and visual warning on the dashboard warning them about the failure. The power steering system may start working again after the vehicle is restarted, however, will likely fail again later on, says NHTSA.

Owners should bring their cars to a Chevrolet or Cadillac dealer where the power steering gear assembly will be replaced. For owners that have already had the system replaced, GM will reimburse them for the cost of replacement.

Separately, GM has already recalled over 1.7 million trucks and SUVs for power-steering issues.
