A two-vehicle accident that sent one vehicle flying onto an embankment has left one woman dead and two others injured. The collision occurred around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29th, near the intersection of Hamilton Street and Pierce Street, just north of where 69 and 45 intersect.
According to the Harris County District Attorney’s office, the accident occurred when a black Ford Fusion traveling southbound on Hamilton ran a red light and struck a black Chevrolet Malibu heading eastbound on Pierce Street.
The Ford Fusion then drove through a fence and then crossed over the barrier, eventually landing on the embankment just before entering the I-69 main lanes beneath I-45. The roads were closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the area before eventually reopening.
The driver of the Ford Fusion that landed on the embankment, a 63-year-old woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the accident. However, her passenger, an 85-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The other vehicle’s driver, a 31-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries, which were treated at the scene of the accident. It was reported that both drivers were evaluated for signs of driving under the influence, though results concluded that neither driver was intoxicated.
