A toddler has died after a cement truck fell off of a bridge and landed on the SUV he was in. The accident occurred on Beltway 8 and Woodforest Boulevard, on Friday afternoon at about 2:30 p.m.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that the cement truck was driving southbound on Beltway 8 when it started to rain. The driver lost control of the cement truck on the slick freeway, crashing through a barrier wall and falling off of the overpass. It landed on an SUV traveling through the intersection of the feeder road.
The SUV was being driven by a 54-year-old woman, and her 22-year-old daughter was in the passenger seat. The 22-year-old’s two young twins, a boy and a girl aged 22 months, were in the backseat. The women were able to exit, but sadly the boy toddler was fatally injured by the impact of the cement truck.
The driver of the cement truck, a 36-year-old woman, also sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. Officials say she showed no signs of intoxication, and the vehicle’s tires did not appear to be defective.
