A motorcyclist was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler in a hit-and-run on Thursday. The accident occurred Thursday night, at about 10:34 p.m., in the eastbound lanes of I-10 near Taylor Road.
Officers with the Houston Police Department reported that they received calls of a motorcycle collision on I-10. Officials state that the motorcyclist was traveling east when the tractor-trailer struck the side of his motorcycle. The force of the impact caused him to lose control, and the motorcyclist then went beneath the trailer, where he was struck again.
The driver of the 18-wheeler did not stop to render aid, and they are unsure if the driver of the truck even knew they struck someone. Officials also believe that other drivers also struck the victim and his motorcycle, but failed to stop and render aid as well.
Eventually, the driver of a Nissan Sentra struck the motorcyclist, then stopped and called emergency services. When first responders arrived on the scene, they found the motorcyclist and pronounced him dead.
The driver of the Nissan was questioned and then released, and showed no signs of intoxication. Police are still searching for the 18-wheeler and its driver, as well as the other drivers involved. They urge anyone with information about the motorcyclist or the 18-wheeler collision to call their hit-and-run unit at 713-247-4072.
