A fire broke out at Nan Ya Plastics Corporation on Sunday night at their Wharton, Texas plant.
Wharton County officials received a call regarding a structure fire at a plastics plant on Sunday night, at about 8:45 p.m. They arrived to the Nan Ya Plastics plant located off of US-59 and FM 102 in Wharton to find the building in flames.
The Wharton Police Department had to evacuate two nearby streets as emergency crews worked to put out the blaze. The fire burned for several hours as the Wharton, Hungerford, Glen Flora, El Campo, Boling, and East Bernard fire departments worked to get the fire under control and put it out.
Authorities say that no one was injured. The company says that all of its employees were safely accounted for, and police confirm that no one was injured during the incident. Nearby residents were also allowed to return home.
Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, a Taiwanese company, has been in operation for over 40 years, and the Wharton plant employs close to 83 people. The fire was reported to be equipment related, though it is still unclear what specifically caused the blaze.
