Most Dangerous Highways in Texas
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintains more than 79,000 miles of roadway – significantly more than any other state. That means there are plenty of places for traffic collisions to occur throughout the state. In fact, as much as 10 percent of all U.S. fatal car accidents happen on Texas roads.
Research has revealed that certain specific stretches of Texas highway tend to be more hazardous than others. According to Texas Monthly and the TxDOT, the top 5 most dangerous roads in Texas include:
1

- I-45 is considered one of the Top 10 deadliest roads in America despite being relatively short.
- An average of 56.5 fatal accidents occurred every 100 miles of I-45 over eight years.
