Chrysler Recalling 240,000 2017-2018 Pacifica Minivans Due to Potential Rollaway
Approximately 240,000 model-year 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica minivans are being recalled after the company learned of problems in the vehicle’s transmission.
The company claims that the affected minivans have manual park releases that can be accessed by the removal of the shifter override plugs without the need for any tools. This may cause the manual Park release to engage and the vehicle to roll away.
Chrysler first learned of the issue when employees began using redesigned plugs with a higher pullout force and requiring the use of a screwdriver or other tool.
Pacifica’s manufactured between June 15, 2016, and April 6, 2018, may be affected.
The recall began in August 2018, and owners can visit any Chrysler dealer to have the manual park release plugs replaced, at no charge.
Chrysler’s recall number is U50, and they can be reached at 800-853-1403.
If you believe your vehicle has an open recall, you may check NHTSA’s website. When directed, plug in your vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number into the NHTSA website. If your number does not appear, your vehicle does not have any open recalls.
